Why do incoming students enroll in Communication Tools for Success?
Students who have taken Communication Tools for Success find that the course is useful in a variety of ways. Not only do you have a chance to arrive in the United States early to settle housing matters and feel more comfortable in your new location, but you are able to create a network with other students in the course. Additionally, you will strengthen your academic skills and familiarize yourself with the American classroom environment; all while improving your English speaking and academic communication skills.
When should I plan to arrive for the Communication Tools for Success Course?
Students should plan to arrive at least 2 weeks before the Communication Tools for Success course begins to arrange for housing and attend to other relocation issues. Once the course begins, there will be no time to do this. Students will receive an I-20 to allow entry to the U.S. 30 days before the start of the course.
What are my options for receiving my form I-20?
Your form I-20 and admissions letter will be mailed to the address you provide on your application. You have two shipping options:
- You may purchase tracking for these materials at a cost of approximately $30. This cost should be paid at the time of application, along with your $50 application fee. Your documents will be sent via FedEx and should arrive in 3-6 business days.
- You may request that we ship your documents at no cost to you using USPS First-Class Mail. Transit time for this option varies based on your home address.
We strongly recommend that you purchase tracking for these materials. If you choose not to purchase tracking, CLED Special Programs is not responsible for materials that are delayed or lost in transit.
Can I pay the fees and tuition at the same time?
No. Application and shipping fees are processed by the CLED Special Programs office. You will pay your tuition through the Office of Billing and Payment Services at a later date.
Is the cost of health insurance included in CTS tuition?
No, the cost of health insurance is not included in the cost of the CTS program. Additionally, payments for health insurance will be made separately from the CTS program.
You will receive further correspondence regarding health insurance after admittance into the CTS program.
I have a question that is not answered here. Should I contact CLED Special Programs or my program office?
Because the CLED Special Programs office is providing the course, we are able to answer questions regarding course content, materials, schedules, and other details pertinent to Communication Tools for Success. Your program office is happy to answer any questions you might have about arriving and settling into the Georgetown area, preparing for the program, and other issues related to the time you will be in the program.
Can you tell me more about my options when it comes to health insurance for Georgetown University students?
All Georgetown University students are required to be sufficiently covered by a health insurance plan.
If you have enrolled in the Premier Plan for the 2017-18 academic year, please note that coverage does not begin until August 15, 2016. This means that you will need additional coverage during the CTS program. For this reason, CTS students are automatically enrolled in insurance coverage for the period July 1 – August 14, 2017 at an estimated cost of $355. If you prefer to use your own medical insurance, it must cover AT LEAST US$500,000 for injury and US$500,000 for illness. If the policy details are not in English, you must provide an official English translation. Life insurance cannot be accepted as an alternative to medical insurance.
After you arrive on campus, the Student Insurance Office will send an email to your Georgetown University email address with directions on how to confirm or waive/decline either or both the summer and academic year insurance plans.
Do I pay for the CTS course when I pay my Georgetown University tuition fees?
Although you may receive a bill for CTS earlier than the bill for your graduate program tuition, you will pay for the CTS course using the same method as you pay your regular tuition fees. Please see the Office of Billing and Payment Services for more information about payment methods and deadlines.
What are my options for health insurance?
Students who are not admitted to a Georgetown graduate program will be automatically enrolled in the EFL Insurance plan. The estimated cost is $68. This insurance coverage will be effective 6/29/17 through 8/2/17. You will pay this fee through the Office of Billing and Payment Services, along with your tuition. This insurance fee cannot be waived, even if you are covered by outside insurance.
