In Haiti, TEFL Graduate Finds Transformation and Challenge

From TEFL Certificate Alumna Marissa Dearborn:

Throughout the last year, I have volunteered with Stone of Help Haiti, a non-profit committed to helping local churches in and around Port-au-Prince promote spiritual and social transformation in their communities. I taught beginner-level English lessons to youth between the ages of 7 and 14 in Ganthier, which is in the West Department, close to the Dominican border. Although my students were a joy to work with, each class seemed to bring a new challenge, and I would quickly have become overwhelmed had Georgetown's TEFL Certificate program not equipped me with the knowledge and skills I needed to be able to modify activities in the moment.
